There are some fantastic things to do for kids in Darwin, its a family friendly place to visit and while the kids play theres time to relax for parents too.
It’s recommended to hire out a car or van to suit your needs for travelling around Darwin because there are plenty of places to see that are just a short hour drive away from the city. Public transport is an option if driving isn’t, busses are pram friendly.
Go on a mini road trip, just a day trip out to see the spectacular landscape of the region. Visit Litchfield National Park, no need to stray off the beaten path, there’s so much see and so much nature to get amongst, even bring a tent to pitch and enjoy a wonderful family campfire while camping out under the stars.
Make sure you spend an evening at the Wharf, the children can watch the fish in the lights while they eat. Another great fish related experience for them is to feed the willing fish at Aquascene in the heart of Darwin. They’ll get to see the huge barramundi, mullet, diamond fish, cat fish and even sting rays come to the water’s edge to be hand fed.
Crocosaurus Cove is an awesome experience, again in the heart of Darwin, the kids will love watching the super scary crocs get fed and the staff love educating kids about ecosystems and animals. Go hiking and bushwalking at many places around Darwin, go canoeing on the Roper River or even enjoy swimming in some natural hot springs at Mataranka.
Don't forget that most of these places have fantastic photo opportunities, memories captured that will last long after the kids grow up.
